A significant milestone was achieved on 12 December 2024, as PETRONAS and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) commemorated the gazettement of the new Occupational Safety and Health (Exemption for Plant Requiring Certificate of Fitness at the Place of Work of PETRONAS Within Maritime Zones) Order 2024 [P.U.(A)292/2024].
This Exemption Order, gazetted on 11 October 2024, replaces the previous order issued under the now-repealed Factories and Machinery Act (FMA) 1974. The new Order aligns with the updated regulatory framework introduced by the Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022, reflecting a commitment to enhanced workplace safety standards.
Officiated by DOSH Director-General Tn. Ir. Hj. Mohd Hatta B. Zakaria and PETRONAS Senior Vice President of MPM, Datuk Ir. Bacho B. Pilong, the event welcomed about 200 representatives from DOSH, PETRONAS, and Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs). This milestone highlights the strong collaboration between PETRONAS and DOSH, reaffirming trust in PETRONAS' commitment to asset integrity and operational excellence.
This new Exemption Order enhances the Offshore Self-Regulation ((OSR) Scheme by extending its coverage to include all Plant Requiring Certificate of Fitness across respective production operation phases at PETRONAS' Place of Work within the maritime zones per the Baselines Of Maritime Zones Act 2006. This demonstrates the confidence in PETRONAS’ commitment to responsible asset management and adherence to safety standards.
