Energy Access to Off-Grid & Small Scale Customers in Peninsular Malaysia

Pengerang, Johor, 16 October 2019 – PETRONAS announced its latest offering in supplying Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to off-grid customers in the Peninsular Malaysia with the launch of PETRONAS’ LNG trucking business, scheduled to operate in the second half of 2020.

A ground-breaking ceremony to commemorate the LNG truck loading facilities was held here recently. The loading facility will initially have four truck loading lanes with the potential for further expansion.

Currently, PETRONAS is providing solutions to support the gas market growth in Malaysia through the 2,500km Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipeline network and the RGT in Pengerang, Johor, as well as in Sungai Udang, Melaka.

“PETRONAS’ commitment to fulfilling customers’ needs and requirements drives us to ensure that costeffective, reliable and high-quality gas supplies are always available to consumers,” said Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Energy & Gas Trading Sdn Bhd, Ezran Mahadzir.

Ezran added that the transporting of LNG via trucks could also be the model to facilitate gas conversions for industries.

LNG sourced from the Pengerang regasification terminal (RGT) is set to be transported via trucks to offgrid customers located away from the main pipeline, as well as to small-scale customers.

The key success factor of this milestone is a result of close collaboration across PETRONAS’ value chain with other industrial players.

As a progressive energy solutions partner, PETRONAS takes pride in offering alternative access to natural gas through its new LNG trucking business, to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment by promoting natural gas as the fuel of choice.
