PETRONAS Refinery And Petrochemical Corporation (PRPC) Sdn Bhd organised a media familiarisation visit in appreciation of the media’s cooperation and support of the development of the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) on 25 January 2018.
 
The engagement kick started with a presentation providing an overview of the development of the PIC by Head of Stakeholder, Communication and Risk Management Division, PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation Sdn Bhd, Datin Anita Azrina.
 
“The project, received Final Investment Decision in 2014 and has involved more than 40 major EPCC packages, 13 licensors, over 200 suppliers and contractors, has achieved an overall progress of 84% as at December 2017 and is on track to meet overall start up in Q1, 2019” said, PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation (PRPC) Sdn Bhd Head of Stakeholder, Communication and Risk Management Division, Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz.
 
Datin Anita also shared with the media the #ForPengerang initiative which aims to empower the community in Pengerang by creating more business and job opportunities. As PETRONAS places equal importance on business growth and social development of the communities in which it operates, PIC through the #ForPengerang initiatives has invested a total of RM8 million to date for the betterment of the socio economy of the community in Pengerang.
 
Apart from the progress update, the members of the media were also enlightened with the HSSE practices at the project site. This update was presented by Head of Health, Safety, Security and Environment, PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation Sdn Bhd, Encik Saifuddin Shah Sowkkatali. The session drove home the message that PIC has an all-encompassing HSSE system and processes in place to mitigate and manage all HSSE risks in all activities across the PIC. The excellent HSSE performance will ensure that the PIC will achieve a successful start up in Q1 safely and within budget in addition to ensuring that everyone working within the PIC will be going home safely to their families.
 
A tour of the project site was next on the agenda which provided the members of the media to witness first-hand PIC’s development to date. The engagement came to an end with a tree planting ceremony, this a on-going green initiative by the PIC is an effort to maintain the eco-friendly environment in and around its premises is expected to see a 10,000 trees planted along the shore line and buffer zone of the PIC by 2018.
 
The familiarisation visit was immensely successful in sustaining PIC’s positioning in the positive light as well as paving the way to further solidify the bilateral relationship between PIC and the media. Positioned as a regional downstream oil and petrochemical industrial hub, the PIC is on track for overall start up in Q1 2019 and will pave a new frontier of technology and economic development in the Southeast Asia Region.
