​​​​Ahead F1™ Singapore Grand Prix, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS (MAMGP) Formula One driver, Valtteri Bottas, was given a preview of PETRONAS’ $27 billion megaproject, the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC).  The visit on 18 September 2019 included an engagement with PIC staff where more than 300 fans thronged the Multi-Purpose Hall to catch a glimpse of the Finnish driver. Bottas walked in at 4pm to the delight of the crowd and took centre stage amidst two charismatic ladies, Head of Stakeholder, Communication and Risk Management Division, Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz and Head of Brand Management, Group Strategic Communications, Puan Noor Afiza Mohd Yusof.

 

 

​​​An engaging discourse moderated by Lee Johnson from Verbal followed and when asked about his impression of the PIC Bottas expressed, ” It’s a sight to behold – the scale and scope of the facility is incredible. It’s great to learn more about PETRONAS’ technology and business whilst we’re in the region and also to see everyone working together with such a great team spirit and passion for their work. It is similar to the team back at the factories in Brackley and Brixworth”.

 

 

​​​The session came to an end with Bottas giving out exclusive signed merchandise to the 9 lucky winners of a special competition held earlier in anticipation of his visit. Bottas made it an unforgettable event for a lucky few when he treated them to a thrilling high-speed driving experience at an adjacent parking lot, after which he returned to the hall for group photos with staff who were eagerly waiting for their chance to get a snapshot with the legendary driver. In addition a collaborative effort with PETROSAINS also saw 30 ecstatic students from selected local schools participating in a contest to build their own F1 cars which were later presented to Bottas where he picked the best designs much to the delight of all present.

 

 

​​​Behind every great success lies great teamwork, and like the MAMGP team, the core of PIC has always been its people, the various individuals who have toiled hard as “One Team One Goal” to ‘Make the Impossible Possible’. This special staff engagement has indeed been the platform to acknowledge their dedication and hopefully it will inspire them to do their best and aim for a ‘podium finish’ themselves.

 

 

​​​PETRONAS is the Principal and Title Partner to the MAMGP Formula One team, where we are the principal technical resource behind the design and development of fuel and lubricants for the Formula 1 World Champion. The close working relationship we have with the team have also allowed us to collaborate on various platforms in human capability development which promotes invaluable sharing of knowledge and adds much more to their individual growth with PETRONAS. Through 10 years of partnership, we have collectively developed 700 candidates, out of which 40 were chosen to be part of the team. And through the years, about 1000 staff were involved in various capacities, from the technology side to the activation and marketing. Indeed, what we have here, is the Winning Formula.
