PETRONAS Elevates Johor Water Woes with Early Raw Water Supply to Sungai Lebam Reservoir
Media Releases

KOTA TINGGI, 14 March 2016 – PETRONAS' Raw Water Supply Project to RAPID, or Projek Air Mentah RAPID (PAMER), today kicked off the early raw water supply phase to Sungai Lebam Reservoir as part of PETRONAS' commitment to assist Johor state government in alleviating its raw water supply situation.

With this exercise, PAMER will supply 40 to 60 million litres per day (MLD) raw water from Sungai Seluyut to Sungai Lebam reservoir, enabling the reservoir to provide the necessary potable water supply to the community.

PAMER, one of six Associated Facilities for PETRONAS' Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang, Johor is a critical facility to support and ensure PETRONAS' mega Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) project is completed and commissioned by 2019. PAMER will be supplying 230 MLD of raw water to RAPID for its continued progression.

The start of the early raw water supply to Sungai Lebam Reservoir is part of a two-phased measure put in place by PETRONAS in collaboration with Johor state government to lift the water rationing exercise at Pengerang. In November 2015, PAMER implemented the first phase of the exercise through the early construction of 12 kilometres of pipelines including the Sungai Lebam spur line and outfall to enable Syarikat Air Johor to channel raw water from Sungai Papan to Sungai Lebam reservoir.  This interim solution enabled water levels at the reservoir to increase significantly and allowed the lifting of water rationing exercises at Pengerang. PAMER was then fast-tracked to complete in 23 months instead of the normal 36 months; allowing for the second phase of continual raw water supply from Sungai Seluyut to the Sungai Lebam reservoir to begin earlier. PAMER is now scheduled to be ready by Quarter 2, 2016.

The event was officiated by Y.B. Dato' Haji Ismail bin Karim, State Secretary of Johor. Also present were Y.B. Datuk Ir. Hasni bin Haji Mohammad, State Executive Council For Public Works, Rural And Regional; Haji Mohd Noorazam Dato' Haji Osman, District Officer of Kota Tinggi and Juniwati Rahmat Hussin, Vice President and Venture Director, PIC, PETRONAS.
