As part of the United Nations Member States, Malaysia, together with PETRONAS and PETRONAS Marine, is committed to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), especially on Affordable and Clean Energy. Since the introduction of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) 2020 implementation to reduce sulphur oxide levels, decarbonisation is the next industry standard on sustainability for the shipping industry.
PETRONAS' aspiration is to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050, with aims to implement a ‘green shipping’ strategy with long-term sustainability as their business agenda.
Since January 2020, PETRONAS Marine has been launched to comply with the IMO 2020 implementation. Together with our affiliates, PETRONAS Marine has developed a wide range of marine solutions, including Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), for the shipping industry around the world.
As the world sets sail for a future with zero emissions, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is expected to grow as an alternative fuel, and demand will continue to increase due to new regulations and requirements.

In March 2021, PETRONAS Marine enhanced its services to provide LNG bunker transfer from Type-C Tanks on its LNG bunkering vessel (LBV) to vessels equipped with Membrane Tanks. We are the first to have successfully provided such services in Southeast Asia.
