The Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) Technology Application and Replication (TAR) Dialogue commenced in 2021 with the Completion Standardisation Technical Committee (COMSTEC) Annual TAR Workshop, which was held virtually on 25 - 26 January 2021.Themed 'Sustaining Intensity Through the New Norm', the objective of the workshop was to focus on two (2) new initiatives of the Open Hole Stand Alone Screen (OHSAS) standardisation as well as remote operations and automation.
The event garnered over 120 participants consisting of completion engineers and production technologists from both Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs) as well as service companies. Key highlights of the workshop included sharing by PETRONAS and Silverwell on the Digital Intelligent Artificial Lift (DIAL). ExxonMobil and Baker Hughes spoke on Multi Task Valve (MTV) application with a focus on establishing the high-level framework for OHSAS standardisation as well as remote operations and automation.
Head of Resource Development and Management (RDM), MPM, Aidil Shabudin, in his opening remarks touched on health, safety & environment (HSE) matters, particularly on adhering to the COVID-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) and embracing new technology applications and replications to maximise value creation and provide solutions for economic challenges.
Later, TAR Technical Advisor, MPM Dr. Rahim Masoudi, delivered the TAR Dialogue steer and highlighted on "Proactive Collaboration in Completion Technologies" emphasising technology as one of the key game-changing enablers for effective resource monetisation and management.
Next, the 2020 Well Completion reflection session was led by Head of Completions, Wells Management, RDM, Ts. Shahril Mokhtar. The COMSTEC has successfully delivered RM256 million value creation through cost avoidance, cost containment and cost savings with RM 212 million realised through TAR initiatives. There were 17 new technologies applied and eight (8) technologies replicated. RDM, MPM has also established a dedicated Completion TAR contract with 18 vendors and 118 technologies pre-approved for any PACs to utilise.
MPM Wells Management also recognised PACs and service companies for their contribution to the upstream service industry in their respective fields in a special award ceremony. Head of Wells Management, MPM, Norazan Kadir, delivered the closing remarks where he emphasised on the importance of upholding HSE behavioural habits, improving on conformance towards completion standards and continuously seek fit-for-purpose technologies. He encouraged the COMSTEC members to put the plan to practice and execute the manning reduction through remote operations and automation.
