KUALA LUMPUR, January 22, 2025 – PETRONAS today hosted a Chinese New Year luncheon for the esteemed media fraternity, a long-standing tradition to strengthen partnerships and collaborations.
PETRONAS Senior General Manager of Strategic Communications, Group Strategic Relations and Communications, Siti Azlina Abd Latif emphasised the significance of the networking session, reflecting the company's unwavering commitment to appreciating the media's efforts and support.
"Today's luncheon is more than just an event; it is a platform to express our gratitude for the enduring relationship we share with all of you. Your commitment to portraying an accurate and insightful picture of our endeavours has been crucial in our journey so far," she said during the event.
Also present at the luncheon were representatives from PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad, PETRONAS Gas Berhad and Gentari.
The luncheon also featured the preview of PETRONAS' Chinese New Year webfilm titled ‘Stay’, the first of its festive series under the theme Beyond Closed Doors. This emotionally-charged film tells the poignant journey of Xiao Bao, a young boy who, after visiting his relatives for the Chinese New Year, ends up staying with them long after the festivities as they lovingly accept him as part of their family.
This follows a heart-breaking discussion between Xiao Bao’s mother and his relatives to leave her son under their care, a selfless sacrifice on her part in the hope that Xiao Bao can lead a better life. But Xiao Bao, being young and oblivious to life’s hardship, could not understand why and cries helplessly for her to stay. It was only years later that he finally understood why his mom could not stay.
In addition to the webfilm preview, PETRONAS further spread festive cheer to the underprivileged through Yayasan PETRONAS’ Uplifting Lives Festive (ULF) initiative. Under the programme, a total of 2,100 families across 15 Malaysian states will receive festive packs containing essential food items and specially sourced cookies from MEKAR Programme entrepreneurs. The contributions were handed over to its programme’s partner, Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) Kuala Lumpur at the event.
"Chinese New Year is a time for celebration, reunion, and goodwill. Through our Uplifting Lives Festive programme, we strive to uplift communities across Malaysia through our contributions to ease their burden. Our festive programme reflects our commitment to sharing joy with all who celebrate, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need," said Siti Azlina.
The Uplifting Lives Festive program is part of Yayasan PETRONAS' efforts to support community well-being and development across Malaysia and is a collaborative effort with JKM and PETRONAS’ regional offices to spread festive joy nationwide.
