The certificates were presented by A. Latiff Awang, Chairman of Education Committee, Science, Technology & Transformation representing the Menteri Besar of Terengganu at a ceremony held at the Sri Gelam Hall, INSTEP. Also present were PETRONAS’ Senior Vice President of Group Human Resource Management, Dato’ Raiha Azni Abd Rahman, together with Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Technical Training Sdn. Bhd. (PTTSB), Chandramohan M. Saminathan.
In his speech, A. Latiff congratulated the graduates for their achievement. “The Government appreciates the effort taken by PETRONAS in nurturing skillful talents for the oil and gas industry. I hope the recipients will deliver significant contributions towards the betterment of the nation.”
Dato’ Raiha Azni Abdul Rahman said PETRONAS remained committed to capability building despite current challenges in the oil and gas industry. “PETRONAS will continue its capability building efforts to sustain an adequate pool of skilled and competent workforce to meet current and future manpower requirements of the petroleum sector,” she said.
She said these efforts were in line with PETRONAS’ commitment to position Malaysia as a leading Oil and Gas Education and Learning Hub in the region, adding that INSTEP would continue to have an important role in producing skilled technicians and operators for the country’s oil and gas industry.
INSTEP, which was established 34 years ago, has undergone rapid expansion which includes the installation of an upstream and downstream training plant to provide its trainees with a wholesome learning experience aligned to meet industry developments and requirements for readily available skilled manpower.
The state-of-the art training facilities and programmes offered by INSTEP has earned the institution international accreditations, including from the Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) in 2014 and Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) in 2015, both of which are the largest awarding bodies in the United Kingdom.
INSTEP has also won the Human Resource Minister Award for Best Training Provider in Malaysia, the Global Getenergy Award in the category of Education and Training Provider of the Year, IECEx Recognised Training Provider (RTP) by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and has managed to establish itself as the first OPITO-approved Oil & Gas Technical Qualification Centre.
“These recognitions and accreditations have made it possible for workers in the oil and gas sector in Malaysia to receive world-class training and qualification from INSTEP making them more marketable internationally,” she added.
