Kuala Lumpur, 3 February 2016 – PETRONAS today commenced its much anticipated Chinese New Year festive campaign with the launch of a fresh TV commercial titled ‘Rubber Boy’, as well as the reactivation of its flagship road safety programme, PETRONAS Coffee Break for 2016.
‘Rubber Boy’ tells the story of Ah Hock who learns the meaning and values of sacrifice, gratitude and acceptance growing up in a rubber plantation, bearing witness to his mother’s love and devotion in providing for the family.
PETRONAS Senior General Manager of Group Strategic Communications, Zahariah Abdul Rahman said, “PETRONAS is proud to be able to bring this warm, enduring story that we hope will resonate in the hearts of all Malaysians. We want to send out a powerful message that happiness lies in the blessings around us, that each of us is blessed in our own way and that it is important to appreciate what we have.”
For the past two decades, PETRONAS’ festive communications have invited all Malaysians to remain united and rooted in the common values, traditions and culture, and to reflect on what is important to bind us together, she added.

At the event, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) also launched its PETRONAS Coffee Break for CNY 2016. This year, the programme offers 880,000 cups of freshly brewed coffee at 142 participating PETRONAS stations nationwide from 6 to 7 February, and 13 to 14 February.
PDB Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus said, “Our commitment to the festive safety campaign remains steadfast. We are expanding the participating PETRONAS stations from 40 stations last year to 142 stations. PDB also collaborated with PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Proton Holdings Berhad to provide safety checks for vehicles at selected PETRONAS LubeXperts outlets and PETRONAS stations nationwide to ensure vehicles are in tip-top condition.”
Customers will also receive a 20 per cent discount on brake fluids when they service their vehicles at selected PETRONAS LubeXperts outlets on weekends from 16 January to 7 February 2016.
Additionally, PETRONAS contributed RM20,000 worth of fuel to St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM) who would be providing emergency response services along the major highways this festive season. SJAM has also held first aid demonstrations at selected PETRONAS stations on 30 and 31 January 2016.
