KAJANG, 6 October 2022 – PETRONAS has contributed a total of RM3.2 million to federal and state agencies nationwide to aid flood preparedness efforts in view of the year-end monsoon season.
The contributions, comprising 36 boats with engine, 8,800 collapsible tents, 5,500 life jackets and 55,000 raincoats would be distributed nationwide by the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM).
At a handover session for Program Bantauan Bencana PETRONAS here today, PETRONAS Senior General Manager of Group Strategic Communications, Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz handed over the contributions to APM Chief Commissioner, Aminurrahim Mohamed. The event was witnessed by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Special Functions, Datuk Dr. Abd Latiff Ahmad.
Datin Anita Azrina said, “We hope that our contribution and involvement will help and ease the burden of agencies in carrying out their duties and efforts in enhancing the agencies’ preparedness in bracing for the upcoming monsoon season.
“With this strategic collaboration with the Government agencies, we are confident that the items will be effectively distributed in accordance with the respective states' needs to be able to extend the impact and reach to benefit all affected Malaysians.”
The initiative is part of PETRONAS’ RM25 million flood assistance contribution announced in December 2021, to assist thousands displaced by heavy floods in many parts of the country. The fund was pledged by units and subsidiaries within the PETRONAS Group including Yayasan PETRONAS.
PETRONAS also recently contributed RM2.5 million to MERCY Malaysia as aid for the victims of the monsoon floods that hit South and Northwest parts of Pakistan.
